I think that there are different reading rates for everything that you will read. If you are reading a text book you are going to read slower so you pick up as much information as possible. If you are just reading in a novel for fun you are going to read faster because you are not looking it pick up information like you would in a text book. You can read a novel faster and still pick up what is going on. Reading rates also differ between people. Some people are good readers and can read rather fast but others have a tough time and tend to read a little slower.
